Superabsorbent wound dressing contain a large number of hydrophilic groups inside, which can absorb blood and excess wound exudate, and provide a cool and moist environment for the wound surface. While alleviating the pain of the wound, it helps the proliferation of granulation tissue and epithelial cells, promoting the recovery of the wound. Hydrogel dressings do not adhere to the new tissue of the wound and will not cause the wound to tear when the dressing is changed. Hydrogel dressings are soft in texture, protecting the wound from secondary injuries, isolating the wound from bacterial and dust contamination, and preventing excessive loss of body fluids and moisture at the wound site. However, the accumulation of exudate can promote the reproduction of bacteria at the wound site, which is prone to cause infection. In addition, the mechanical strength of hydrogels is low. These disadvantages limit the application of hydrogel dressings.

Now let's introduce to you how Superabsorbent wound dressing are produced

1. Raw material preparation
Super absorbent polymers (SAP) : such as Sodium Polyacrylate, which contains a large number of carboxyl groups and can absorb and retain a large amount of liquid.
Base materials: such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), chitosan, sodium alginate, etc. These materials have good biocompatibility and water absorption.
Other additives: such as antibacterial agents (such as nano-silver), drugs, etc., can be added as needed.
2. Mixing and crosslinking
Mixing: Mix the super absorbent polymer evenly with the substrate. For instance, chitosan, sodium alginate and other substances can be mixed with water, and the bubbles can be removed by high-speed stirring combined with centrifugal deaeration technology.
Crosslinking: By means of chemical or physical methods, polymers are formed into a three-dimensional network structure to enhance their water absorption and stability. For example, by using irradiation cross-linking technology, the mixed solution is sealed and packaged and then subjected to irradiation treatment.
3. Forming
Hydrogel molding: Cool the mixed solution to room temperature to form a hydrogel.
Fiber forming: Through blending technology, the cross-linked mixed liquid is prepared into super absorbent fibers with high porosity and high specific surface area.
4. Composite structure design
Multi-layer structure: By combining super absorbent materials with nonwoven fabrics, foams and other materials, a multi-layer structure is formed. For instance, superabsorbent fibers are combined with Tencel®/ absorbent cotton/polylactic acid nonwoven fabric.
Functional layer addition: Add non-adhesive wound contact layers, vertical drainage layers, etc. as needed to improve the performance of the dressing.
5. Post-processing and packaging
Drying and curing: Dry the formed dressing to remove excess moisture.
Cutting and packaging: Cut the dressing to the required size and package it aseptically to ensure it remains sterile before use.
6. Quality Control
Performance testing: Conduct performance tests on finished dressings for water absorption, antibacterial properties, biocompatibility, etc., to ensure they meet quality standards.
Stability test: Test the stability of the dressing under different environmental conditions to ensure its performance during storage and use.

In this way, wound dressings with high water absorption, good biocompatibility and antibacterial properties can be produced, which are suitable for various wound care scenarios.
